Ch. 8 The Omnivore's Dilemma

What defines a family dinner? Do you think the decline of families eating together has had negative effects?

  1. A family dinner is when your family actually sits down and eats "real food", not siting in the car or playing games while eating. I also think the decline of families eating together has been bad because when people eat at a table they actually think about what their eating but not really when they are drivng places their in a hurry to or in the middle of "awesome" level on a game. Not eating with your family can be bad for your health so why take the chance?

  2. When your whole family sits down and has dinner togeher, that is a family dinner. I think that not having as much family dinners has had a negative effect. When you have a family dinner you are able to discuss with your family about what is going on and things that are happening. Without family dinners family's havn't been bonding as much as they use to.When you eat with other people you usually don't eat as much, you eat only what satisfies you not what makes it so that when you lay down its hardser to get up than when it was 45 minutes ago. I think that the more familys eat together the healthier they will become.

  3. A family dinner is when the whole family sits down at the kitchen table and eats the SAME FOOD! It doesn't count if everyone is eating something different. Not eating with your family is negative. It is because for one, if you eat alone, no one influences what you eat, so you could be eating a ton of junk. Also because at the kitchen table, family talks about school and other topics. If you are not sitting with your family, then you do not get to know each other. Also the kids might keep secrets from the parents since they are not talking a lot.

  4. Family dinners happen when the family sits down at a table to enjoy a meal that is preferably cooked by the family, NOT fast food or frozen junk or anything like that. Family dinners are a time for the family to talk and socialize with their family. The decline of this happening has several effects, one being less trust in one another and possibly depression. This is a new concept to me, and I find it hard to imagine a dinner without your family to enjoy it with. (dinner=7 people for me)

  6. A family dinner is where every member of the family is sitting down, at a TABLE eating the same meal. They talk about how their day was, etc. When they decide to leave the table they ask to be excused.

The decline in family dinner has been bad for our health. We have started to eat more and more fast food. Fast food is giving our bodies things that we do not need. We have stoped thinking about what we are putting in our bodies and started thinking about how fast and easy the food is. AMERICA NEEDS TO EAT MORE FAMILY DINNERS!!!!!!!!!!

  7. A family dinner is where the whole family sits down at the table together and eat the same food. Family dinners are important because the members of the family get to sit, eat, and be together for a hour, more or less. If we eat fast food, which is NOT a family dinner, we are likely to be driving and will probably not talk as much because we are not facing each other. Also we won't spend as much time together because fast food is, well, fast. We eat it quickly.

  8. A family dinner is where you sit down at a table or with your family and eat "real food", not in a car or any place else. I think it has because you do not talk to each other much and it becomes where you so not talk at all anymore.

  10. A family dinner is when a family gets together and eats the same food at a table. The number of families eating together has declined a has a big negitive impact on us. More and more people are eating in cars and are eating by themselves. That has effeted our health a lot, and not in a good way.

  11. A family dinner is all of the following:
    1. You sit down at the table. Not the car or a table at a fast food restaraunt.
    2. All members of the family are present and eating the same thing.
    3. You eat civily and carry a good conversation. Ask your mom how her day was! Tell your family about your day to. This can releave a lot of stress.
    4. The food should not have been frozen, microwaved, and or picked up from anywhere if possible.
